Laying the first stone
Commissioned by the international arts center deSingel and Hogeschool Antwerpen [2007]
Concept, editing, and coordination of publication, film, and exhibition
When the first stone was laid for the expansion of the arts campus at deSingel, a brochure, two films, and a small exhibition were made to inform a large, diverse group of users and visitors about the how and why of the large, new addition to the building.
The expansion of the building is placed in the historical context of Leon Stynen’s modern monument deSingel. In addition, the necessity of the expansion is explained, along with its new functions and the design by Stephane Beel. More info on the website of deSingel
Exhibition
A series of sketches on a large wall showing the various phases of the building’s existence serves as an information point. The text ‘DE KUNSTCAMPUS GROEIT’ (the arts campus expands) indicates which works are in progress. Two monitors show two films continuously: a report and an animated film that explain the new building.
A model shows the relation of Stephane Beel’s design to the existing building. The base contains compartments for brochures. Five views around the building focus on the new building.
